Sexual Abuse Survivor Flag of Pride

The Sexual Abuse Survivor Flag of Pride is a copyrighted and trademarked original design drawn by Julyah Rose. Julyah Rose was molested and raped as a child and teenager. What was more hurtful to her than the actual sexual abuse was the way the people around her reacted to her abuse. Her family turned against her; she and many survivors were left out of the Me Too Movement and simply relegated to forgotten hashtags or statistics, intensifying their trauma. Sex, and sexual abuse, especially, are usually portrayed in a stigmatized, negative light, when in fact sexuality is normal and healthy and, according to Julyah Rose, being a survivor is not something to be ashamed of, nor a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of strength for what she has overcome. Instead of withdrawing socially due to being ashamed of your pain from sexual abuse, The Survivor Flag of pride celebrates pain as a part of the shared human experience.

The butterfly is a universal symbol for survivors of sexual abuse. Teal and blue are the official colors designated to survivors of sexual abuse and assault. Blue hearts are how survivors show each other love. If you look closely the body of the butterfly it is the universal symbol for survivors of sexual abuse and assault. The stripes of dark teal to light teal represent the survivor’s healing journey from darkness to light. The butterfly has grown from a helpless, ugly, caterpillar to a beautiful complex butterfly, just as survivors have made the journey from victim to survivor to thriver. The hands releasing the butterfly symbolize survivors releasing shame, shame which was placed upon us by a perverted society but was never truly our shame to carry.

Julyah Rose, credits her success and healing to revoking the victim mentality, and taking responsibility for her own life, counter to the learned helplessness /oppression mentality taught by modern feminism “the world is against me” and everything is somehow “not my fault”.

The Survivor Flag of Pride symbolizes the decision to start approaching life without a victim mentality which can be the switch that sends abundance and gratitude your way. The sense of autonomy associated with responsibility is a powerful motivator, allowing individuals to feel that they are in control of their destiny.

Adorn your community with this Survivor Flag of Pride, symbolizing the strength and resilience you have demonstrated. As an ally, institution, or community organization, display The Survivor Flag of Pride to give hope to survivors and give hope for a future where sexual abuse can be mitigated and the collective response to sexual abuse can be improved to be supportive rather than stigmatizing and shameful.

Like the butterfly, there is no more hiding in the darkness, but only soaring towards the light.

If you ever feel alone as a survivor, please know there is someone out there thinking of your and sending you love.

Xoxo
